Week 1: Introduction
Hello! My name is Sehrish Noorali and I am currently a junior at the University of Oklahoma. I was born in San Jose, California, raised in Atlanta, Georgia, and currently reside in Edmond, Oklahoma. I graduated from Deer Creek High School in Edmond, Oklahoma and am now a Microbiology Pre-Med student hoping to get into and graduate from OU's Medical School. I am currently taking Microbiology, Organic Chemistry 2, Microbiology Lab, Organic Chemistry Lab, Health Facilities Management, and Epics of India. I am a huge Oklahoma City Thunder fan. My passion developed for this team when I started working for the OKC Thunder my freshman year in college as part of the Events Crew. I am now employed by Microsoft Windows and work at Best Buy as a Microsoft Consultant. I really enjoy my job and love all the people that I work with. My hobbies include reading, riding my bike, trying new foods, traveling, watching Netflix, and taking naps. I do not have a pet of my own, but my boyfriend recently bought a little Ragdoll kitten named Onyx and it's safe to say that I am obsessed with it. Onyx is literally the handsomest and most well behaved kitten. I am not as involved with campus activities as I was in high school, but this year I am the Secretary of Oklahoma Undergraduate India Society, I am a member of OU's Pre-Med club and OU's Women in Medicine club, and also a part of Camp Crimson. This past summer I took two college classes, Biochemistry and Spanish 3. I also worked the entire summer and was a counselor of a religious camp called Camp Mosaic in Dallas, Texas. This camp was a blast to be a part of and really reminded me about why I love my religion and also opened up my eyes to how different our generation is from the generation today and the generation in the past.

Hi Sehrish! I absolutely love your picture! Onyx is so cute! I'm also taking Micro with the lab this semester. It's so cool that you're involved with OUIS and the Pre-Medical Women's Society! I'm a part of SAIV, and it was so great to meet OUIS members at the picnic we had together last year. It would be great for our groups to get together more! I'm the publicity chair for the Pre-Medical Women's Society, and we're so excited to set up meeting dates and get great speakers to come.
ReplyDeleteHi AJ! Thank you so much. Onyx definitely is the cutest! Haha. That's awesome! Who's your lab TA? Man :( I really wish I could have been at that picnic. Heard some really good things about it. I was stuck at work and couldn't take the day off. Hopefully next time we have something like this i'll be able to attend. I do agree and hope that our groups can get together more. Yay! I can't wait for Pre Med Women's society to start. I think it'll be a blast!
DeleteHey Sehrish! My name is Bria and I was immediately struck by how adorable that little kitten is! I have a cat as well. I also was impressed with your major. Micro is an intense degree, what got you interested in it? What area of medicine do you want to go into? I am and always have been really interested in medicine and wanted to be a cardiothoracic surgeon before I developed anxiety which made my hand incredibly shaky (i'm not trying to knick any arteries or anything). Now im' a social work major planning to work in a hospital with pediatric oncology patients.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bria! I think Onyx is so cute as well. Microbiology is an intense degree. I really hope that I can follow through with it. I got interested in it because some of my friends have graduated from OU with it and they loved it. I am also super intrigued by the small little organisms and how certain things react and grow in different environments and situations. Hopefully Anesthesiology or Neonatology. Oh wow! That's amazing. I'm extremely sorry about your anxiety. But being a social worker in a hospital and working with pediatric oncology patients sounds amazing. Good luck with everything!
DeleteOh... a ragdoll kitten! How adorable! Is it really true about their name, how they go all limp like a ragdoll when you pick one up? I've seen pictures of ragdoll cats, but never actually seen one for real. I had a tortie-point Siamese when I was little, and she was a great cat! I know you will have fun watching Onyx grow up this semester. And listen, that is GREAT that you are the secretary for OUIS. Please let me know about any events I can include in the announcements, okay? That would be fantastic, and I hope you will enjoy the class!!!
ReplyDeleteHey Sehrish, my name is Barclay. I am senior and also a pre-med student, although I'm a biochemistry major. I would also love to go to OU medical school. I'm a huge NBA fan, and the Thunder are my favorite team. I went to Hornets games whenever OKC hosted them after Katrina and was so excited when the Supersonics moved their franchise to OKC. Sounds like you've got a full plate this semester, good luck with those science classes!
ReplyDeleteHello Sehrish! Sounds like we enjoy a lot of the exact same things! I'm a chemical biosciences major and just applied to medical school this year. It's a tough process, but it's fun! Good luck with Organic Chem 2. It's a hard class, but really gives you a deeper understanding of organic chemistry. I'm really interested in that Health Facilities management class. I'm actually going to go try and find that class right now! Have a great semester.
ReplyDeleteHey Sehrish! I am a junior and majoring in Biology. It seems like we have taken most of the same classes. I also took Biochemistry this summer too. I learned a lot of cool new things from Doctor Najar. I took Organic Chemistry 2 last spring and had a lot of fun. Hopefully, you enjoy it as much as I did.
ReplyDeleteHi Sehrish! My name is Elizabeth. Your degree certainly sounds like it is challenging. Do you have anywhere specific you want to travel to? One of my goals is to travel around Europe for a few months at some point in my life. The ragdoll kitten is adorable. I really want to get a kitten soon, but I have to wait until I find someplace ok with pets. I hope you have a great semester! Good luck with Pre-Med!
ReplyDeleteHi Sehrish! It sounds like you have a busy semester. Good luck with Pre-Med! I also love to do all the activities you mentioned in your hobbies. That camp you worked at sounds like a lot of fun! I am also from Oklahoma and worked at a camp in Texas. My last time there was a couple years ago. Mine was in Waco so Dallas sounds a lot better!
ReplyDeleteHey Sehrish! Its so cool that we have so many similarities! I am also a pre-med junior at OU. I am also taking Microbiology and completed biochemistry in the summer. I also really like the Oklahoma City Thunder even though I was born in California also. I find it extremely funny that you labeled napping as one of your hobbies. You must really love sleep! But who doesn't as a college kid? Best of Luck!
ReplyDeleteHey Seehrish,
ReplyDeleteYou are a very diverse individual. I was wondering something about some of your coursework, as I am also a pre-professional major. Why did you end up taking biochem before Organic 2? I know that they're not pre-requisities, but I also hadn't seen someone do that before. I took Physical Chemistry before taking Methods, but that's different.
I'm a Thunder fan, too. I'm not sure if I could handle being on their event staff as I get too caught up in games already. Have a good semester!
Hey Sehrish! Sure sounds like you have quite the load on your plate and I understand how challenging some of the classes you are in can be. I am not really a fan of cats but Onyx does look like quite the cute little kitten. How did you enjoy your time in Dallas this summer? That is actually were I am from so I hope you enjoyed yourself. I wish you the best of luck with your admission to OU's medical school. I am currently in the process of dental school interviews so I know how stressful and hard that can be. I hope you have a great semester.
ReplyDeleteHey Sehrish! I gotta say, you sound like a busy person. I have a lot of respect for people who can go go go all the time--it's people like that who make the world go 'round. That's awesome that you got a job working for Microsoft. Do you have any computer skills? Know any programming languages? Or are you just a tech nerd? :P
ReplyDeleteI was a Microbiology major when I started school, but I quickly realized that the workload and eventual lifestyle that path would lead me to was something that I didn't really want, so I ended up majoring in Letters. If I had it to do over again though, knowing what I know now, I would definitely pick a specialization and stick with it.
Keep on keepin' on, and keep the world spinnin' for spectators like me. :)
Hello Sehrish!! Your boyfriend's kitten is just adorable! I can definitely see why you would dote on him, haha.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like you definitely keep yourself busy, with classes and work and clubs. Honestly, I'm amazed that you can juggle everything and still retain your wits. ;) But seriously, I took Organic 2 and Organic lab last semester and while it is possible to get As in those classes, it takes a lot of time and effort, as I am sure your other classes do as well. Good luck!!
